Our review
A long-running, fragrance-free foaming face wash based on SLES with milder co-surfactants, aloe and hyaluronic acid. Loyal users praise its gentleness and economy; it remains a sulphate-based cleanser, which not every dry or sensitive skin enjoys.

Packaging and what the product is
The photo on clinique.co.uk shows a translucent pale-green bottle with a lilac screw cap, printed “CLINIQUE – all about clean – liquid facial soap mild / savon visage liquide doux” and “dry combination”. Clinique sells it in 200 ml and a 400 ml size, plus a 30 ml mini. It is the first step of the brand's three-step routine.
Ingredient analysis
Sodium laureth sulfate is the main surfactant, softened by cocamidopropyl hydroxysultaine, lauramidopropyl betaine, sodium cocoyl sarcosinate and TEA-cocoyl glutamate; sodium chloride and PEG-120 methyl glucose dioleate build the gel texture. Aloe leaf juice, sucrose, sodium hyaluronate, butylene glycol and a small amount of tocopheryl acetate add a little conditioning.
Polyquaternium-7 and a silicone quat (cetyl triethylmonium dimethicone PEG-8 succinate) help skin feel less stripped after rinsing. Preservation is phenoxyethanol with caprylyl glycol and hexylene glycol; EDTA and disodium EDTA are chelators. There is no fragrance.
What to watch out for
No fragrance and no declared allergens. SLES can feel drying for some very dry or compromised skin, and any foaming cleanser can sting the eyes. Nothing in the list is subject to special EU warnings at these uses.
What users say
On LOOKFANTASTIC it averages 4.5/5 from 213 reviews, and Clinique's UK page shows 4.3/5 from 375 ratings (both checked 31 Oct 2026). Many reviewers have used it for years or decades and describe a mild cleanser that lathers from a small amount, removes make-up and leaves skin fresh without drying or stinging the eyes; several buy it as a gift.
A recurring theme is disappointment that Clinique's solid facial soap bar was discontinued – some buyers tried the liquid as a replacement with mixed feelings. Explicit complaints about the liquid itself are rare on the reviews we saw.
Who it may suit
Dry-combination to combination skin that likes a classic foaming wash without fragrance. Those with very dry or reactive skin who dislike sulphate cleansers may prefer a cream or oil cleanser.
