Our review

A light, fragrance-free gel cream aimed at post-blemish marks, combining onion extract and sodium heparin with niacinamide, tranexamic acid and vitamin C derivative. Ratings are high, but detailed opinions are few and the original formula has been replaced by a “Plus” version.

Packaging and what the product is

The photo on isntree.com shows a squeeze tube in lavender and purple with a white cap, labelled “Onion Newpair Gel Cream”; the official site now sells it as “Onion Newpair Gel Cream Plus” (50 ml). The ingredient list provided corresponds to the earlier, non-Plus version, which some European retailers list as discontinued. It is a leave-on gel cream for the face, marketed for marks left by blemishes and uneven-looking tone.

Ingredient analysis

The base is water with propanediol, glycerin and butylene glycol, a little caprylic/capric triglyceride and a polymer gel network. Niacinamide is sixth. Sodium heparin and Allium cepa (onion) bulb extract follow straight after – the pairing familiar from scar-care gels.

Further down are sodium ascorbyl phosphate (a stable vitamin C derivative), adenosine, tranexamic acid, allantoin, panthenol, three forms of hyaluronic acid and extracts of neem, ivy gourd, houttuynia, eggplant, coralline algae, holy basil and turmeric. There is no fragrance; 1,2-hexanediol and ethylhexylglycerin handle preservation.

What to watch out for

No parfum and no labelled fragrance allergens. Sodium heparin is usually of animal (typically porcine) origin, which matters to people avoiding animal-derived ingredients. The long botanical list makes patch-testing sensible for reactive skin. Claims about fading marks are the brand’s; results vary and scars or persistent pigmentation are worth discussing with a dermatologist.

Who it may suit

People with normal to oily or combination skin who want a light, fragrance-free gel moisturiser with brightening-type ingredients. Those with very dry skin may need an extra layer, and vegans may want to avoid it because of the heparin.
