The official L’Oréal Paris UK photo shows a pink aerosol can branded Elvive Dream Lengths “Air Volume Dry Shampoo”, with a claim of no white residue. The candidate size is 150 ml; it is sprayed at the roots from a distance, left briefly and brushed through.

Ingredient analysis

Butane is the propellant and alcohol denat. the fast-evaporating carrier. Rice starch is the oil-absorbing powder, with calcium carbonate and stearalkonium hectorite helping to keep it suspended and less visible. Isopropyl myristate and castor oil give slip; niacinamide and cetrimonium chloride are small conditioning additions. Propylene carbonate is a solvent for the hectorite. Hydroxycitronellal, listed seventh, is part of a substantial fragrance.

What to watch out for

The fragrance declares hydroxycitronellal, limonene, benzyl salicylate, linalool, benzyl alcohol, alpha-isomethyl ionone, geraniol, citronellol, coumarin and hexyl cinnamal; hydroxycitronellal is an allergen with EU concentration limits. As with any aerosol, the can is extremely flammable – do not use near flames or while smoking – and avoid inhaling the spray or getting it in the eyes. Dry shampoos do not replace washing; starch build-up can make the scalp itchy if used for many days in a row.

On Wizaż the picture was very different – 1.7/5 from only 6 ratings – with Polish reviewers saying it did not absorb oil, left a powdery film or gave no volume.

Who it may suit

People with fine or long hair who want a scented refresher between washes and do not react to fragrance. Those with sensitive scalps, perfume allergies or very oily hair may be disappointed.
