Our review
A strong multi-acid serum for blemish-prone skin: glycolic, salicylic and LHA together with niacinamide, in an alcohol-rich base. Many users report fewer blemishes and lighter marks, but a noticeable share report stinging and dryness – start slowly.

Packaging and what the product is
Our entry is listed only as 'Effaclar', but the EAN (3337875722827), the 30 ml size and the INCI identify it as the Effaclar Ultra Concentrated Serum (sold in Poland as 'Effaclar Ultra skoncentrowane serum'). The manufacturer's photo shows a turquoise glass dropper bottle with a white pipette and the brand's blue square logo; the label lists the product in several languages. The pipette helps dose a few drops for the whole face.
Ingredient analysis
Denatured alcohol is second on the list, right after water, followed by propanediol, glycolic acid and niacinamide. Salicylic acid and capryloyl salicylic acid (LHA, a lipophilic salicylic acid derivative) come a little further down. Together this is a three-acid exfoliating system: glycolic acid works on the surface, salicylic acid and LHA are oil-soluble and better suited to pores.
Dimethyl isosorbide is a solvent that helps actives penetrate; pentylene glycol is a humectant. HEPES (hydroxyethylpiperazine ethane sulfonic acid) and sodium hydroxide buffer the pH. Biosaccharide gum-1 and maltodextrin add some smoothing and moisture. The formula also contains fragrance (perfume).
What to watch out for
A combination of acids with a high alcohol content can irritate, especially on dry or sensitive skin; combining it with retinoids or other exfoliants in the same routine raises this risk. Alpha hydroxy acids increase sun sensitivity, so daily sunscreen matters. Salicylic acid is regulated in the EU (Annexes III and V); the product must comply, but the label does not show the concentration. Fragrance is present. Pregnant people using acne products should ask a doctor or pharmacist.
What users say
The serum averages 4.4/5 from 114 reviews at Shop Apotheke AT and about 4.5/5 from over 1,400 ratings at Lookfantastic DE (checked 30.10.2026). Positive reviews mention finer-looking pores, fewer new blemishes and lighter post-acne marks, plus a quick-absorbing, non-sticky texture. Negative reviews describe burning or stinging, marked dryness and redness, and one case of perioral irritation with nightly use – those reviewers recommend using it only once or twice a week. Opinions on how fast results come vary from days to several weeks.
Who it may suit
Oily and combination skin with blemishes, enlarged pores or post-acne marks, used gradually and paired with a gentle moisturiser and sunscreen. Dry, very sensitive or barrier-damaged skin may find it too strong. Persistent or inflamed acne is worth discussing with a dermatologist.
