Packaging and what the product is

The Schwarzkopf Professional photo shows a slim, light-pink plastic bottle with a bright pink cap, the silhouette logo, the lowercase “bc” mark and “Color Freeze pH 4.5 Conditioner” in pink lettering. This version holds 200 ml (a 1000 ml salon size also exists).

It is a rinse-off conditioner for coloured and highlighted hair, used after shampooing. The brand says it detangles and smooths, and that its pH 4.5 helps lock colour pigments inside the hair to limit fading.

Ingredient analysis

The base is water, cetearyl alcohol and glycerin. Conditioning comes from behenamidopropyl dimethylamine (which becomes cationic in acidic conditions), distearoylethyl hydroxyethylmonium methosulfate (an esterquat), behentrimonium chloride and guar hydroxypropyltrimonium chloride; isopropyl myristate and shea butter add emollience. Lactic acid, calcium hydroxide and citric acid form the buffer behind the “pH 4.5 Balancer” claim; an acidic pH helps close the cuticle, which is a reasonable basis for less colour wash-out, although the size of the effect depends on the whole routine.

Soy and wheat amino acids, serine, threonine and arginine HCl are the amino-acid blend the brand calls “vegan keratin”; they are small, water-soluble conditioning molecules rather than a structural repair. Preservation relies on phenoxyethanol, ethylhexylglycerin, sodium benzoate and potassium sorbate. There are no silicones. Parfum is mid-list, followed by linalool, benzyl salicylate, hexyl cinnamal, limonene, citronellol and benzyl alcohol.

What to watch out for

Six fragrance allergens are declared, relevant for people with fragrance allergy or a sensitive scalp; keep the conditioner on the lengths. Soy- and wheat-derived amino acids are present, which some people with soy or wheat allergy prefer to avoid. Without silicones, very coarse or long hair may need a mask or leave-in for full slip.

Formulas can differ between markets, so the version sold in India (Nykaa) may not match this European INCI exactly.

The visible reviews say it keeps coloured hair soft and smooth, adds shine, reduces frizz and slows colour fading; one short review reads “Softens colored hair and color bleeds less.” The reviews shown were positive and brief, so they say little about drawbacks.
