Our review

A 50 ml very-high-protection sunscreen for babies and children that relies only on mineral filters – titanium dioxide and zinc oxide in nano form – in a water-in-oil base without fragrance. The few reviews are mostly positive, but several mention a white cast that needs massaging in.

Packaging and what the product is

The uriage.com photo shows a blue 50 ml tube with a white cap, the Uriage Eau Thermale logo, a yellow band with “Bébé” and “SPF 50+”, and the product names “1ère Crème minérale” and “1st Mineral cream – very high protection”. It is intended for face and body.

Ingredient analysis

Dicaprylyl carbonate, a light emollient, is listed first, followed by titanium dioxide (nano), water and zinc oxide (nano) – the only UV filters. Neopentyl glycol diheptanoate and octyldodecanol add slip; PEG-30 dipolyhydroxystearate and polyglyceryl-3 diisostearate with sodium chloride and magnesium sulfate stabilise a water-in-oil emulsion. Alumina, stearic acid and triethoxycaprylylsilane coat the mineral particles; nylon-12 softens the finish. Glycerin, glucose and trehalose are humectants, beeswax and hectorite add body, and tocopheryl acetate and ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate are antioxidants. No classic preservative or fragrance is listed.

What to watch out for

Nano titanium dioxide and nano zinc oxide are permitted UV filters in the EU after SCCS assessment, with a restriction against use in sprays that could be inhaled – this is a cream, so that does not apply. Mineral filters can leave a white film. Sunscreen is only one part of sun safety: very young babies should be kept out of direct sun, and the product should be reapplied generously. Beeswax is present for those avoiding animal-derived ingredients.

What users say

On Redcare Pharmacie (France) the 50 ml tube had 4.6/5 from 14 ratings (checked 31 Oct 2026); Wizaż had no ratings. Parents describe it as suitable for babies and effective on holiday, with no complaints about scent. One tester said it must be massaged well to avoid a white film, and one parent found it hard to absorb, leaving a white face and some redness on her baby. One reviewer also reminded others that infants should not be exposed to the sun at all.

Who it may suit

Parents looking for a fragrance-free, mineral-only sunscreen for children’s face and body who accept some whitening. Those wanting an invisible finish, or children with reactions to the formula, will need an alternative.
