A fragrance-free, serum-like SPF50+ sunscreen (Hyalu-Cica Water-Fit Sun Serum) using four modern organic filters, with centella, niacinamide and hyaluronic acid. Users overwhelmingly praise the light, invisible finish; the formula has since been revised by the brand.

Packaging and what the product is

The official skin1004.com image is a campaign photo of a young man holding a white squeeze tube labelled with the Centella line name close to his face. The ingredient list provided (water, dibutyl adipate, propanediol, four UV filters, centella and three hyaluronic acid forms) matches the original Madagascar Centella Hyalu-Cica Water-Fit Sun Serum, sold in a 50 ml tube; the brand now sells a reformulated “UV” version with panthenol and rice, oat and soy extracts.

Ingredient analysis

The emollient base is light: dibutyl adipate, propanediol, coco-caprylate/caprate and caprylyl methicone, with polymethylsilsesquioxane powder for a soft finish. UV protection comes from diethylamino hydroxybenzoyl hexyl benzoate (UVA), ethylhexyl triazone (UVB), methylene bis-benzotriazolyl tetramethylbutylphenol (broad spectrum) and diethylhexyl butamido triazone (UVB) – all filters authorised in the EU.

Niacinamide is eighth. Centella asiatica extract leads a group of plant extracts (birch bark, ginkgo, green tea, wheat and broccoli sprouts, alfalfa, rocket, camellia leaf), followed by sodium hyaluronate, adenosine, tocopherol and other hyaluronic acid forms. There is no fragrance; 1,2-hexanediol and ethylhexylglycerin support preservation.

What to watch out for

No parfum and no labelled allergens. The many botanical extracts may matter for people with plant sensitivities. As with any sunscreen, protection depends on applying an adequate amount and reapplying, and a sunscreen is only part of sensible sun behaviour.

Reviewers repeatedly describe a very light texture that sinks in quickly like a moisturiser, no white or grey cast, no smell, no pilling and good behaviour under make-up; several with combination or acne-prone skin say it suits them and that they have repurchased.

Who it may suit

People with normal, combination or oily skin who want an invisible, fragrance-free daily face sunscreen under make-up. Very dry skin may still want a moisturiser underneath.
